1.To help them master the words and phrases: compare、distinctive、variety、differ、now that etc. 2.To let them master verb forms. 3.Help students to learn how to use “ because”, “ since”, “as” and “ now that”
2.Process and methods 1)Train the students’ speaking ability through individual, pair work and group work. 2)Train the students’ reading skills by dealing with some reading activities. 3)Explanations to make the students master some language points. 3.Emotion and values

帮助学生对比 2 种英语的差别,进一步了解英语文化内涵。
Teaching important points:

重点 难点

Enable students to gain knowledge about British and American English, know something about these two kinds of English.
Teaching difficult point:

教学过程
Step 1: Lead-in (Introduction) 1. Do Activity 1 1) Q: What language is spoken is Britain? What in the US? Do you think the two “Englishes” are completely the same? If not, in what ways are they different? 2) Read the quotations on Page 1 and answer the questions. 2. Do Activity 2 Get the students to read through the two emails and ask them to decide which writer is American and give the reasons. Suggested answers: The second writer is American. Some of the reasons are: British English: American English: Mum Mom programme program theatre theater realise realize write to me write me 3. Do the Vocabulary Exercises on Page 4. Step 2: Pre-reading

1. Do Activity 1 on Page 2. 2. Get the students to read the passage and answer the question: In what ways is British English different from American English. Step 3: While-reading British English Vocabulary Grammar Spelling Pronunciation 1. Read the first four parts and summarize the differences from four aspects. 2.Read the last part and summarize the main contents of it. The two varieties are moving closer. Because of the non-stop communication, lots of American words and structures have passed into British English. In the future, there are going to be many “Englishes”. 3. Do Activity 3 on Page 3. Step 4: Discussion How many main varieties of Chinese are there and in what ways are they different? Can you give some examples? Meaning: a) not be the same; be unlike 有区别;不同于 b) to disagree with sb 意见相左;不同意 Phrases: ? differ from...in... 在...方面和...不同 ? differ from/with sb. on/over/about sth. 不同意;意见不合 7) 他的长相和几个兄弟不同。 He differs from his brothers in looks. 8) 有关如何度假的事,她和我的意见总是不合。
