第三部分 阅读理解(共20 小题;每小题2 分,满分40 分) 第一节: 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C 和D)中,选出最佳选项。 A Have you got a Facebook account? Are you thinking of getting one? Jamie Simmonds has just signed up. Let‘s see how she‘s getting along. My Diary

MONDAY :I‘m officially a Facebooker. I find a few people I used to know and I‘ve soon got seven
friends. I‘ve never felt so popular! I wonder if my old university flatmate Steve is on here. What do you know! He is! Maybe Facebook has its uses.

TUESDAY: I‘ve received lots of nice welcoming messages on my wall.

Later, I meet up with Steve for a

drink after not seeing him for five years. We get on really well! Then, he uses his Facebook app for iPhone to suggest me as a friend to some other former classmates. Some of them even come to the pub and it‘s just like old times – possibly a bit too much like old times. During the night, photos are uploaded to Facebook.

WEDNESDAY: Disaster! My mum‘s on Facebook! Has she seen the photos of me dancing on the table
from last night? Has she shown them to dad? Oh.And I have a friend request – mum again!

THURSDAY: There‘s a message from my boyfriend, ―so, it‘s over then, is it?‖.

Evidently

I haven‘t

changed my settings to show I‘m ―in a relationship‖, and I haven‘t even added him as a friend. well, Ah, I wonder what my ex-boyfriend is doing… Whoops! I accidentally type his name into my status box instead of the search box, and now every one can see it on their news feed.

FRIDAY: Time to update my status: ―Work is boring. Can‘t wait for the weekend!‖ Yeah, that about
sums it up. Oh, look, I‘ve received a comment! Someone must feel the same way.Lots of my friends now ―like‖ this status.

SATURDAY: Good news! I‘ve got 100 friends.But wait! Someone’s “un-friended” me! I look through
my ―friend list‖ to try to work out who it was. Why did they do that ? Am I really such a terrible person? I never knew Facebook could be this cruel.

SUNDAY: Wake up. Check my Facebook page. Make coffee. Check my Facebook page again. Get ready
to leave. Change my mind and check my Facebook page … again.I am becoming addicted to it! I think it‘s time to end it all before it takes over my life. I delete my account.Back to good, old, simple e-mails. Oh, look, I‘ve got a message: A friend invited you to join Twitter. .

pyramids so the reader takes in more and more words at each successive fixation. All these exercises are very clever, but it‘s one thing to improve a person‘s abilit y to see words another thing to and quite

improve his ability to read a text efficiently. Reading requires the ability to

understand the relationship between words. Consequently, for these reasons, many experts have now begun to question the usefulness of eye training, especially since any approach which trains a person to read isolated words and phrases would seem unlikely to help him in reading a continuous text. 60. The time of the recognition span can be affected by the following facts except . A. one‘s familiarity with the text C. lighting and tiredness 61. The reading author . may believe that B. one‘s purpose in reading D. the length of a group of words

A. requires a reader to take in more words at each fixation B. demands an deeply-participating mind C. requires a reader to see words more quickly D. demands more mind than eyes 62. What does the author mean by saying the underlined sentence in the second paragraph? A. The ability to see words is not needed when an efficient reading is conducted. B. The reading exercises mentioned can‘t help to improve both the ability to see and to comprehend words. C. The reading exercises mentioned can‘t help to improve an efficient reading. D. The reading exercises mentioned has done a great job to improve one‘s ability to see words.

59. It can be learned from the passage that the writer‘s attitude towards Facebook is A. approval B. objective C. negative D. positive

B
Now let us look at how we read. When we read a printed text, our eyes move across a page in short, jerky movement. We recognize words usually when our eyes are still when they fixate. Each time they fixate, we see a group of words. This is known as the recognition span or the visual span. The length of time of which the eyes stop ---the duration of the fixation ----varies considerably from person to person. It also varies within any one person according to his purpose in reading and his familiarity with the text. Furthermore, it can be affected by such factors as lighting and tiredness. Unfortunately, in the past, many reading improvement courses have concentrated too much on how our eyes move across the printed page. As a result of this misleading emphasis on the purely visual aspects of reading, numerous exercises have been devised to train the eyes to see more words at one fixation. For instance, in some exercises, words are flashed on to a screen for, say, a tenth or a twentieth of a second. One of the exercises has required students to fix their eyes on some central point, taking in the words on either side. Such word patterns are often constructed in the shape of rather steep

Scientists have discovered a real-life ―moral compass‖ in the brain that controls how we judge other people‘s behavior. The region, which lies just behind the right ear, becomes more active when we think about other people‘s misdemeanor or good work. In an experiment, researchers were able to use powerful magnets (磁铁) to disrupt (扰乱) this area of the brain and make people temporarily less moral. The study discovers that our sense of right and wrong isn‘t just based on upbringing, religion or philosophy —but also by the biology of our brains. The researchers used a non-harmful technique to disrupt the area of the brain. The technique produce a magnetic field on a small part of the brain which creates weak electric currents in the brain. These currents interfere with nearby brain cells and prevent them from firing normally. One story described a man who let his girlfriend walk over a bridge he knew was unsafe. The girl

survived unharmed. Under normal conditions, most people rate the man‘s behavior as unacceptable. But after getting the magnetic pulse, the volunteers tended to see nothing wrong with his action —and judged his behavior purely on whether his girlfriend survived. Another story described two girls visiting a chemical plant where one girl asks her friend to put sugar in her coffee. The friend uses powder from a jar marked toxic (有毒的) --- but as the powder turns out to be sugar. Volunteers with a disrupted moral compass tended to rate the girl‘s behavior as permissible because her friend was not injured---even though she was aware the powder came from a jar labeled toxic. Throughout the experiment, irresponsible or deliberate(故意的) actions that might have resulted in harm were seen as morally acceptable if the story had a ―happy ending‖. 63. What‘s the probable meaning of the underlined word ―misdemeanor‖ in Para.1 ? A. Behavior. B. Misdeed. C. Fate. D. Adoption. 64. From the second paragraph we know that B. different people show different . A. the ―moral compass‖ is developed with education ―moral compass‖ C. the ―moral compass‖ is unknown to scientist before D. the ―moral compass‖ works like a magnet 65. The third paragraph mainly tells us . A. how the powerful magnets disrupt the area of the brain B. what harm the powerful magnets bring to the brain C. whether the powerful magnets can disrupt the area D. how researchers spot the area with powerful magnets 66. What do the two stories want to tell us? A. People who like playing jokes on others is controlled by ―moral compass‖. B. People judge others‘ behavior acceptable or not by the ―moral compass‖. C. whether people‘s behavior is acceptable or not is judged by a happy ending. D. Different behaviors controlled by the ―moral compass‖ are all acceptable.

There is a big question making the rounds among the parents at my daughter‘s class. Should the kids refer to the parents‘ friends as ―Mr. Jones‖ or ―Mrs. Smith‖, rather than using their first names? I was quite shocked, having come from a home where it would have been unheard of to refer to one of my parents‘ friends by their first names. This was reserved for only the closest of family friends and relatives, and even they always had ―Aunt‖ or ―Uncle‖ in front their name. Respect is something that is earned. Unlike many of the other virtues we try to nurture (培养) our kids, in 高考学习网-中国最大高考学习网站Gkxx.com | 我们负责传递知识!

virtue of self-respect is critical for kids to succeed and feel good about themselves and their choices throughout their lives. There are several factors that can have a big impact on kids and their ability to be respectful. The first one to consider is manners. Calling adults by their surnames, setting proper examples during sporting events and while driving, and how we talk to each other in our homes all can have an enormous effect on a child‘s concept of respect and how important it is. Many of these seemingly trivial(微小的) ideas have become almost outdated, but one should seriously consider the value of these ideas before casting them aside. It is easy to become unaware of these behaviors. Try to keep track of how often your child is subjected to this kind of disrespect. The media, as you may have guessed, plays a large part in the increase in disrespect. Movies are equally to blame, with a PG movie often containing an abundant amount of profane language. These factors and others all contribute to an alarming increase in disrespect in society. If we don‘t step in and change course, we will find living in a morally respectful culture unlikely. 67. What does the author think of kids‘ referring to parents‘ friends by their first names? A. It is common in his family. B. It is OK if the friends are close. C. Such behavior lacks respect. D. Such behavior sounds funny. 68. What advice does the author give in the passage? A. Parents should correct kids‘ bad behavior before children. B. Parents should mind their behavior before children. C. Parents should nurture kids‘ self-respect from birth. D. Parents should choose suitable movies for kids. 69. The underlined ‖. B. simple C. complicated word ―profane‖ in the fourth paragraph means ― A. rude D. respectful 72 usually

Different cultures emphasize the importance of relationship building to a greater or lesser degree. Even with people at work,it is necessary to spend a lot of time in ―small talk‖,

over a glass of tea, before they do any job. In marry European countries --- like the UK or France--people find it easier to build up a lasting working relationship at restaurants or cafes rather than at the office. Talk and silence may also be different in some culture. I once made a speech in Thailand. I had expected my speech to be a success and start a lively discussion; instead there was an uncomfortable silence. 73 After getting to know their ways better,I realized that they thought I was talking too much. In my own culture, we express meaning mainly through words, but people there sometimes feel too many words are unnecessary. 74 Certainly, English and German cultures share similar values; however, Germans prefer to get down to business more quickly. We,think that they are rude. In fact, this is just because one culture starts discussions and makes decisions more quickly. 75 However , if we can understand them better, a multicultural environment(多元 文化环境)will offer a wonderful chance for us to learn from each other.
