In August 1996, Peter Hessler, an American teacher of English, arrive in the arrived town of Fuling on the Yangtze River. He and a colleague were to spend two years there teach English at a teacher training college. They were the only foreigner in teaching foreigners the town. The first semester finished and they had four weeks off. Though they could go anywhere they wished, but they decided to take a boat downstream. They finally had a wonderful trip ∧the Three Gorges. along/to 第二节 书面表达 (15分) 参考范文 I often imagine what my life will be like in three years. I think it must be quite different from now. By then I will be studying in my dream college. Although I have to spend enough time and energy on studies in order to find a good job after graduation, I’m sure I will

not be so busy as now. Therefore, I would like to spare some time to do a lot of after-school activities that I am interested in so that I can enrich my college life and have myself improved. Besides, I can get to know many new teachers and classmates, with whom I will make friends and get along well. On holidays, I’ll travel around the world to learn about the world and broaden my horizons. This will be my life in three years, which will be rich and colorful. I am really looking forward to it.

录音原文
Text 1 W: A table for two, please. M: Do you want the table near the window? W: Yes, please. M: I’ll get you a menu right now. Text 2 W: I want to take Ashley to Europe for a holiday this summer. M: Yeah, she’s been studying so hard this year. She should have a good vacation. Text3 W: Jacob, could you stay for tea? M: I’d love to, but I have to get some money from the bank before my wife gets home. Text4 W: It’s 8 o’clock already! I’m late for work! M: Relax, honey. It’s Sunday! Just have some more sleep. W: Oh, okay. Thank God. Text5 W: Jane missed the class again, didn’t she? I wonder why. M: I called her this morning to see if she was sick. It turned out that her brother was badly injured in a car accident. Text6 M: I’m going to the store. What do we need? W: Um, what do you want for dinner tonight? M: How about chicken? W: We had chicken last night. M: Yeah, that was really good. I want some more of that. W: I’ll make more next week. How about beef? M: I’ve got sick of that. W: What about noodles for night? M: Sure, I’d like that. I’ll get some noodles and some mushrooms and onions. W: Sounds great. Text7 W: We have just come back from a long tour in Italy. It was wonderful. M: Where did you go? I want to know all about it. W: Well, we started in the North with the city of Milan. After that we went direct to Venice. M: Did you visit Florence? W: Of course. I can see why it’s called the City of Flowers. Flowers were seen everywhere in the fields all around. M: And then I suppose you visited Rome? W: Oh, yes, we couldn’t miss that. We spent four days in Rome before we flew home. M: I’m glad. You’ve waited long enough for it. Text8 W: I want to make a speech on “Traffic Jams.” Can you give me some advice? M: Well, this is really a hot topic, but no simple answer to this problem. W: That’s why we need to do some research about it. Just tell me your opinion, please.

M: Well, I think more people should be encouraged to use public traffic instead of private cars. W: But the buses and subways are too crowded in busy hours. M: That’s true. The point is that there are too many people in large cities. W: You mean the government should move some people out of the large cities? M: That’s what the government has been thinking of. W: The government should not build super large cities. M: Well, I’ve told you there is no simple answer. So much for today, I will attend a meeting in half an hour. Text9 W: Hello, Mr. Tompkins. Our newspaper is going to print an article about new products of the future. Could you tell me something about the new home your company has built? I understand it promises to be a model for the houses of the future. M: Certainly. The idea is not to have a house full of different things. This is a complete home system. It will make people’s lives easier. W: OK. So tell me how this house will make my life easier? M: When you arrive at the front door, you won’t need a key. The door will open with a touch of your finger. You’ll be able to call your refrigerator when you’re in the supermarket and find out how much you need to buy. Isn’t it wonderful? W: Can I call the washing machine as well? M: Sure. But you don’t need to. The house comes with a robot. It is designed to clean the house and do the washing. W: What does it cost? M: A million dollars. W: A million dollars! It will be 200 years before I can buy one! Text10 A tornado is a rotating column of air from a thunderstorm to the ground. The most violent have winds of more than 400 kilometers per hour. Almost all of them occur in the US. On average, there are 800 tornadoes there each year. Many people are killed or seriously injured although there is a warning sent ahead of time by the government. Some people do not hear the warning while others receive the warning but do not believe a tornado would actually do any harm to them. In this small book, you will find some information about how to protect yourself from tornadoes. Study it and listen to the timely weather forecast and warnings, and you could save your life in the event that a tornado hits your area. After you have received the warnings, you must find a safe place before the storm arrives. It could be the most important decision you will ever make.
