B (2014· 江苏) Most damagingly, anger weakens a person's ability to think clearly and keep control over his behaviour. The angry person loses objectivity in evaluating the emotional significance of the person or situation that arouses his anger. Not everyone experiences anger in the same way; what angers one person may amuse another. The specific expression of anger also differs from person to person based on biological and cultural forces. In contemporary culture, physical expressions of anger are generally considered too socially harmful to be tolerated. We no longer regard duels (决斗) as an appropriate expression of anger resulting from one person's awareness of insulting behaviour on the part of another. Anger can be identified in the brain, where the electrical activity changes. Under most conditions EEG (脑电图) measures of electrical activity show balanced activity between the right and left prefrontal (额叶前部) areas. Behaviourally this corresponds to the general evenhanded disposition (意向) that most of us possess most of the time. But when we are angry the EEG of the right and left prefrontal areas aren't balanced and, as a result of this, we're likely to react. And our behavioural response to anger is different from our response to other emotions, whether positive or negative. Most positive emotions are associated with approach behaviour: we move closer to people we like. Most negative emotions, in contrast, are associated with avoidance behaviour: we move away from people and things that we dislike or that make us anxious. But anger is an exception to this pattern. The angrier we are, the more likely we are to move towards the object of our anger. This corresponds to what psychologists refer to as offensive anger: the angry person moves closer in order to influence and control the person or situation causing his anger. This approachandconfront behaviour is accompanied by a leftward prefrontal asymmetry ( 不 对 称 ) of EEG activity. Interestingly, this asymmetry lessens if the angry person can experience empathy (同感) towards the individual who is bringing forth the angry response. In defensive anger, in contrast, the EEG asymmetry is directed to the right and the angry person feels helpless in the face of the angerinspiring situation. 文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,讲述了生气的危害以及生气的人的表现形式。 60.The “duels” example in Paragraph 2 proves that the expression of anger

________. A.usually has a biological basis B.varies among people C.is socially and culturally shaped D.influences one's thinking and evaluation 答案: C 写作技巧题。 在第二段中作者举 duels 的例子前, 提到 In contemporary

culture, physical expressions of anger are generally considered too socially harmful to be tolerated.所以,举 duels 的例子是为了证明怒气的表达是跟社会文化有关的,故 选 C 项。 61.What changes can be found in an angry brain? A.Balanced electrical activity can be spotted. B.Unbalanced patterns are found in prefrontal areas. C.Electrical activity corresponds to one's behaviour. D.Electrical activity agrees with one's disposition. 答案: B 细节考查题。 由第三段第四句话 But when we are angry the EEG of the right and left prefrontal areas aren't balanced and, as a result of this, we're likely to react. 可知:生气时,在额叶前部,左右脑是不平衡的,故选 B 项。 62.Which of the following is typical of offensive anger? A.Approaching the source of anger. B.Trying to control what is disliked. C.Moving away from what is disliked. D.Feeling helpless in the face of anger. 答案:A 细 节 考 查 题 。 由 第 四 段 第 五 句 话 This corresponds to what

anger 与 defensive anger,故选 D 项。 C (2014· 福建) It was Mother's Day morning last year and I was doing shopping at our local supermarket with my fiveyearold son, Tenyson. As we were leaving, we found that only minutes earlier an elderly woman had fallen over at the entrance and had hit her head on the concrete. Her husband was with her, but there was blood everywhere and the woman was embarrassed and clearly in shock. Walking towards the scene, Tenyson became very upset about what had happened to the couple. He said to me, “Mum, it's not much fun falling over in front of everyone.” At the front of the supermarket a charity(慈善) group had set up a stand selling cooked sausages and flowers to raise funds. Tenyson suggested that we should buy the lady a flower. “It will make her feel better, ” he said. I was amazed that he'd come up with this sweet idea. So we went over to the flower seller and asked her if we could buy a flower for the lady to cheer her up. “Just take it,” she replied. “I can't take your money for such a wonderful gesture.” By now paramedics( 急救人员)had arrived, and were attending to the injured woman. As we walked up to her, my son became intimidated by all the blood and medical equipment. He said he was just too scared to go up to her. Instead I gave the flower to the woman's husband and told him, “ My son was very upset for your wife and wanted to give her this flower to make her feel better.” At that, the old man started crying and said, “Thank you so much, you have a wonderful son. Happy Mother's Day to you.” The man then bent down and gave his wife the flower, telling her who it was from. (2014· 陕西) One afternoon last week, I saw three tearful children from my son's school being comforted by teachers. That morning, my 11yearold had stomach pains, retching(干呕)into a bowl. Talking to other mothers later, I heard about other children with stomachache or difficult sleeping the night before. What caused so much pain? Sports day. Sports day might be necessary at a highlycompetitive independent school, but not at a village primary school. For the children who can fly like the wind, sports day cause no problem. For those who are overweight or just not good at sport, it is a nightmare(恶梦). Even for those who enjoy running but fall halfway down the track in front of the entire school and their parents, it can prove a disaster. Why do we put our children through this annual suffering? Some may say competition is character building; or it's taking part, not winning, that is important; or that's a tradition of school life. I just felt great pity for those children in tears or in pain. Team games at the end of sports day produced some close races, wild enthusiasm, lots of shouting—and were fun to watch. More importantly, the children who were not so fast or quick at passing the ball were hidden a little from everyone's eyes. Some of them also had the thrill of being on the winning side. I wish that sports day could be abandoned and replaced with some other lesscompetitive event. Perhaps an afternoon of team games, with a few races for those who want them, would be less stressful for the children and a lot more fun to watch. 文章大意:本文为议论文。论述运动日给孩子带来的利弊,作者希望运动日 换一种方式来举行。 68.What can we learn about the author's son from Paragraph 1? Izzy, nine, restarted father Colm's heart by stamping(踩)on his chest after he fell down at home and stopped breathing. Izzy's mother ,Debbie, immediately called 999 but Izzy knew doctors would never arrive in time to save her father, so decided to use CPR. However, she quickly discovered her arms weren't strong enough, so she stamped on her father's chest instead. Debbie then took over with some more conventional chest compressions(按压)

until the ambulance arrived. Izzy, who has been given a bravery award by her school, said: “I just kicked him really hard. My mum taught me CPR but I knew I wasn't strong enough to use hands. I was quite scared. The doctor said I might as well be a doctor or a nurse. My mum said that Dad was going to hospital with a big footprint on his chest.” “She's a little star,” said Debbie. “I was really upset but Izzy just took over. I just can't believe what she did. I really think all children should be taught first aid. Izzy did CPR then the doctor turned up. Colm had to have more treatment on the way to the hospital and we've got to see an expert.” Truck driver Colm, 35, suffered a mystery allergic reaction on Saturday and was taken to hospital, but was sent home only for it to happen again the next day.
