Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh (1853 - 1890) was a post-impressionist whose work powerfully influenced modern Expressionism. Born in the Netherlands, and living primarily in France, Van Gogh was a prolific artist who produced all of his work during a 10-year period-at one point, creating an astounding 150 paintings and drawings within one year.
Although now an icon, he sold only one painting in his lifetime. His originality is shown in many self-portraits and landscapes, as well as his most famous piece, "Starry Night," which now hangs in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. It hauntingly expresses, through swirling brushstrokes, vivid colors, and distorted forms, the artistic brilliance of "tormented artist" who left us a legacy of eternal masterpieces.
The whirling brushstrokes of the sky may at first giving the disturbing suggestions of mental imbalance and violence beyond control, the longer the picture is considered the more consistent it appears as a whole in the multitude of curves that twist and turn and repeat themselves throughout. Nor is it to be supposed that Van Gogh was incapable of anything else, The flame-like form of cypress sets a key that is followed through with a pervading vibration that represents a sustained effort

Vincent (Starry Starry Night)
Sung By "Don Mclean" 唐.马克林
Starry starry night Paint your palette(调色板) blue and grey Look out on a summer‘s day With eyes that know the darkness in my soul. Shadows on the hills Sketch(画速写) the trees and the daffodils(水仙) Catch the breeze and the winter chills(寒冷) In colors on the snowy linen land. Now I understand What you tried to say to me How you suffered for your sanity (神志正常) How you tried to set them free. They would not listen they did not know how Perhaps they'll listen now.
Starry starry night Flaming(燃烧的) flowers that brightly blaze(发光) Swirling(旋转的) clouds in violet (紫罗兰) haze(薄雾) Reflect in Vincent’s eyes of china blue. Colors changing hue(色度) Morning fields of amber (琥珀色) grain(谷物) Weathered(变色的) faces lined in pain Are soothed(抚慰) beneath the artist's loving hand. Now I understand What you tried to say to me How you suffered for your sanity How you tried to set them free. They would not listen they did not know how Perhaps they'll listen now.
For they could not love you But still your love was true And when no hope was left in sight on that Starry starry night. You took your life as lovers often do, But I could have told you Vincent This world was never meant for one as beautiful as you.
Starry starry night Portraits hung in empty halls Frameless heads on nameless walls With eyes that watch the world and can’t forget. Like the stranger that you’ve met The ragged(衣衫褴褛的) men in ragged clothes The silver thorn(刺) of bloody rose Lie crushed(压碎) and broken on the virgin(天然的) snow. Now I think I know What you tried to say to me How you suffered for your sanity How you tried to set them free. They would not listen they're not listening still Perhaps they never will.
