Newspapers and Magazines Period One

Teaching content:
Introduction; Vocabulary and Reading

Teaching important points:
1.Help the students make sense of the whole passage; 2.Help the students improve their reading ability; 3.Help the students learn and use the vocabulary about exploring space.

Teaching difficult points:
1.Help the students use the vocabulary about exploring space; 2.Help the students grasp some reading skills.

Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Lead-in and Introduction 1.Lead-in All of us are familiar with newspapers and magazines.This module we will talk about the topic to learn more about newspapers and magazines.First let`s learn about some related items and review some related words. 2.Activity1 on P41 Read through the given information to understand and match;Call back the answers and explain if necessary;Read out the items aloud in class together. 3.Activity2 on P41 Read through the given information to understand and divide;Call back the answers and explain if necessary;Read out the words aloud in class together. [*4.Activity3 on P41] This part can be omitted for our students. Step 2 Pre-reading 1.Lead in the new words taikonaut and cosmonaut. What is an astronaut? An astronaut is a person trained to pilot a spaceship or travel in space for some scientific purpose.Now please name some Chinese astronauts.Yes,Yang Liwei,Ye Shenghai and Zhai Zhigang.But in different countries,an astronaut is also called in different way.In China an astronaut is also called a taikonaut.It is from Chinese Pingying "taikong" and English word astronaut.In Russia an astronaut is called a cosmonaut.Before reading let`s learn more about these words to prepare for reading. 2.Activity1 on P42 Read through the given information to understand and try to complete the passage;Call back the answers and explain if necessary;Read through the passage again quietly by themselves to understand it better. Step 3 Reading 1.Fast reading Next we`ll read a news passage.Before reading please read the subheadings in Activity2 on P42 and predict what the article is about.After one or two minutes,the teacher calls back the answer and explain if necessary.(It is about our Chinese first taikonaut Yang Liwei.) Now please read through the passage about our Chinese first taikonaut Yang Liwei as quickly as you can to get the main idea of each part and then match the subheadings with the parts.After several minutes the teacher calls back the answers. 2.Scanning

Scan the first part to finish Activity3 on P42.While scanning, the students should keep the answers in their mind and try to find related sentences in the text directly to match them. After several minutes the teacher calls back the answers and explain if necessary. [Pay attention to Learning to learn.] 3.Language points Explain some difficult language points.[Ref: Notes to the text] 4.Careful reading Read through the passage carefully to get more details and then finish Activity4 on P42.After several minutes the teacher calls back the answers and explain if necessary [*5.Activity5 on P44] This part can be omitted for our students. Step 4 Consolidation Time permitting,ask the students to listen to the tape and follow it quietly to understand the text better. Step 5 Summary and Homework 1.Summary: Summarize what they have learned in this period. 2.Homework: Reading on P93-94 in workbook.

Appendix: Notes to the text
Useful expressions make an orbit of 围绕…转圈 take a photograph/photographs of take off in total wish sb. sth.(eg:I wish you a merry Christmas.)

Teaching content:
Grammar1 & Reading and listening

Teaching important points:
1.Encourage the students to sum up the grammatical rules of "adverbial clause of time" themselves. 2.Train their listening skills. 3.Develop their reading ability.

Teaching difficult points:
1.Make sure the students master the grammatical items. 2.Get the students to understand the new words and phrases in this part. 3.Make the students use "adverbial clause of time" correctly. 4.Develop the students` listening skills.

Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Greetings and Revision 1.Greet the students as usual. 2.Check up the homework in last period OR ask some students to read out the new words in this module. Step 2 Grammar1—Adverbial clause of time 1.Review Adverbial Clause of Time briefly.[Ref: Grammar1 in Module3]

时间状语从句——表示主句发生的时间。 时间状语从句通常由 when ,as ,while, after, before, since, as soon as, till (until), while, whenever 等引导。时 间状语从句一般放在句首或句尾。 特别注意,时间状语从句不允许使用将来时,而应该用现在时替代(与 if 引导的条件状语从句一样——主将从现)。 eg:I was watching TV when he came in. While we are young,we should work hard. As he grew older,he began to go deaf. Step 4 Summary and Homework 1.Summary: Summarize what they have learned in this period. 2.Homework: Activity1-2 on P91 in workbook.

Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Greetings and Revision 1.Greet the students as usual. 2.Check up the homework in last period.
