Grammar 2 --Adjective Ending in –ing and -ed Class Schedule: the 4th lesson Class Type: New Session Part One ----Teaching Objects
(1) To understand what adjectives with –ing and –ed endings means. (2) To master the uses of this two kinds of adjective endings.

Part Two ---- Teaching Key Points
(1) To learn the adjectives with –ing and –ed endings. (2) To master the uses of new words, such as embarrassed/embarrassing; encouraged/encouraging; satisfied/satisfying

Part Three ----Teaching Difficult Points
(1) Differences and function of the two forms. (2) How to make use of this two forms correctly and flexibly.

Part Four ---- Teaching Aids
Projector; computer

Part Five ----Teaching Steps
Step 1 Lead-in (1) Question: Can you remember some words with –ing and –ed endings which we have learned? (2) Let the students speak up the words which they have thought of. ◆interesting/interested; boring/bored; exciting/excited (3) Can you make a distinguish between the two sentences? ◆I am bored. ◆I am boring. Step 2 Reading My First Day at Senior High again (1) Try to find out the sentences which have the adjectives ending in –ing and –ed in the text. ◆The classrooms are amazing. ◆the English class is really interesting. ◆I don’t think I will be bored in Ms Shen’s class! ◆Some students were embarrassed at first but everyone was very friendly. (2) Work in groups and try to explain the meaning of these sentences according to the context. (3) Now try to distinguish the adjectives ending in –ing and –ed from the meanings of these sentences. Step 3 Finish the Activities 2&3 (1) 按要求学生个别操练。 (2) 两人活动,进行交流,核对两部分的答案。 Step 4 Conclusion (1) The concepts of the two forms ◆The -ing form describes the people or things that cause the feeling; (令人……) ◆The -ed form describes how people feel. (感到……)

(2) Examples about the two forms ◆I am bored. 我感到很无聊。 ◆I am boring. 我很无聊。 (我是一个无聊的人。 ) ◆The classroom was amazing. 教师太令人惊奇了。 ◆I was completely amazed by the classroom. 我完全被教室震惊了。 Step 5 Exercises (1) boring/bored: I wasn’t ____ with the lesson. (2) interested/interesting: I was very ____ in her teaching method. (3) disappointed/disappointing: He was ___because Ms Shen won’t be the teacher every day. (4) amazed/amazing: The computer screen is absolutely _____ (5) embarrassed/embarrassing: Group work activities won’t make you ______ because you can keep quiet if you want to. (6) bored/boring: The journey home from school was______. Step 6 Homework (1) Using the –ing and –ed form of the words “bore” “interest” “amaze” “embarrass” to make sentences. (2) Finish the study English.
