Q: What does the girl do in her father’s shop? 8. W: I thought you were pleased about the new job and going to London. M: I am. It’s just that I’ve been here for so long in this town and it’s hard to think of anywhere else as home. Q: What’s the man’s feeling towards his new job in London? 9. M: What do you usually do in your spare time? W: I go to a lake and enjoy boating whenever I have time. It’s so relaxing. Q: What does the woman do in her free time? 10. W: You look tired and sleepy. Do you have trouble falling asleep? M: No, I had to finish the paper for history class from 9:00 last night to 2:00 in the morning. Because I didn’t remember it until I finished watching TV. Q: Why does the man look tired and sleepy? B) Listen to the following two dialogues and choose the best answer to each question. Each dialogue will be read twice. Questions 11—15 are based on the following dialogue. W: Tell me about your education experience. M: I went to Peking University. I studied business there.

W: Have you taken any other courses besides business at the university? M: Well, I have taken a few computer courses and English courses. W: How is your English speaking and writing abilities? M: I think they’re pretty good. I have a lot of English-speaking friends to talk to and I write many emails in English every day. I can also speak and write some Japanese. W: And you’re good with computers? M: Yes, I think so. I’m pretty good with Word and Excel. W: What kind of work experience do you have? M: I worked at a company for two years. We had a lot of customers in Europe and North America. I also spent three years working at a local computer company. W: OK, we’ll consider your application and call you soon. Thanks for coming. M: Thank you for your time. Questions 16—20 are based on the following dialogue. W: We’ve got to organize the end-of-year party. Could you organize the music, please? M: Sure, I’ve already thought about it. I have got James to be my partner. I am trying to call Mary to work with me too, but so far ... W: Why didn’t you tell me? She is a good friend of mine. Actually, we had lunch together last Sunday. I’ll ask her to give you a call. M: That’ll be great! Thanks.

W: What about live music? M: Well, I am going to meet a singer and his band this weekend. W: What do you know about them? M: I’d rather not say, but I will tell you as soon as I have more news. W: Come on. Tell me something about them. I promise I will keep it a secret. M: OK. They are local and I’m sure they will become really famous one day. W: Well done. I am leaving to discuss the tickets with the printers. Let’s meet next Friday, same time, same place. M: Fine. Bye. W: Bye. III. Passages A) Listen to five people complaining about their hotels during holidays and match the information in the two columns. The material will be read twice. M: Mr. Silk said the hotel he lived in was horrible. His room was dirty and the toilet was blocked. When he tried to call the hotel manager, nobody answered the phone and the problem had not been solved when he left the hotel last June. W: The hotel which Miss Rudd stayed in was not dirty. But she was not happy because it was too far away from her favorite beach. She could not enjoy much time there. Therefore, she moved to another hotel after two days. M: Mr. Norrish complained that a group of young men in the room next door made his holiday a misery with their noisy parties. Many customers suffered a lot as Mr. Norrish did. At last the hotel manger came and stopped the young men. W: Mrs. Barnes came down with serious stomachache after a meal in the hotel restaurant. She had to go to hospital for a couple of days. And the hotel definitely paid all the money. But her holiday was ruined by this. M: Building work outside the hotel drove Mr. Cook crazy. The building work

started at 6:00 in the morning and stopped at midnight. Sometimes it kept going day and night. Mr. Cook had to end his holiday ahead of time. B) Listen to the following material and fill in each blank with only one word. The material will be read twice. Nobody really knows when the first T-shirt appeared. What is known, however, is that T-shirts have become part of almost everyone’s life since James Dean and Marlon Brando wore them in their movies in the 1950s. They have remained popular for two main reasons. First, they can be used to create an image and, second, they look good on everyone and can be worn on different occasions. In short, they are extremely useful items of clothing. A picture or message printed on a T-shirt can tell a great deal about the person wearing it. For example, if there is a message about saving the planet, it means that the wearer is concerned about the environment. In this way it is very easy to tell whether you have something in common with somebody else, or whether your opinions are worlds apart. Some new T-shirts are often printed with small flowers, or small stones. T-shirts with impressive paintings have also become popular and can be bought on the Internet. This is the end of the listening section.
