The group of people introduced themselves to me and my German classmate Julia. They were from a production company, currently in the process of filming a movie based in DuAn, a rural area a few hours north of Nanning. They tried to explain the plot of the film, but neither mine nor Julia's Chinese was good enough to fully understand what they were saying. They then asked if we would be interested in being part of the project. I came to China to experience new things and new opportunity, and being in a movie sounded so exciting. So in less than a second, I jumped at the chance of being in the film. Julia on the other hand was not so enthusiastic. It took 30 minutes to convince her to be part of the film, and she eventually accepted the chance. That afternoon we were taken to the production company's office to meet the director and some of the cast. We all sat together, drinking tea, talking about why I and Julia were in China and about the film. It seemed a little bit like a dream. Ever since I was a small child, I dreamed of becoming a movie star, but I would never have guessed that my dream would come true, especially now in China. At the end of the talk, we were given scripts (剧本) and had a few photographs taken. We were given the production schedule and ensured that our scenes would only be shot at weekends so it wouldn't interfere (影响) with our studies. We left the office excited about the film, but unknowing what filming was actually like. On our first day of filming, we were picked up in the early morning from the university and we drove deep into the countryside. We arrived on location and waited for our scene to be shot. We watched as the other actors and crew went about their work, busy shooting and re-shooting the same scene from different angles and perspectives. I never knew how much effort and care went into filming even the most short and simple scene. It was then our turn to shoot, and I was very nervous and very excited.

Elderly adults who regularly drink green tea may stay more agile (敏捷的) and independent than their peers over time, according to a Japanese study that covered thousands of people. Green tea contains antioxidant chemicals (抗氧化物) that may help stop the cell damage that can lead to disease. Researchers have been studying green tea's effect on everything from cholesterol (胆固醇) to the risk of certain cancers, with mixed results so far. They found those who drank the most green tea were the least likely to develop ''functional disability'', or problems with daily activities or basic needs, such as dressing or bathing. Specifically, almost 13 percent of adults who drank less than a cup of green tea per day became functionally disabled, compared with just over 7 percent of people who drank at least five cups a day. The study did not prove that green tea alone kept people agile as they grew older. Green-tea lovers generally had healthier diets, including more fish, vegetables and fruit, as well as more education, lower smoking rates, fewer heart attacks and strokes, and greater mental sharpness. They also tended to be more socially active and have more friends and family to rely on. But even with those factors accounted for, green tea itself was tied to a lower disability risk, the researchers said. People who drank at least five cups a day were one-third less likely to develop disabilities than those who had less than a cup per day. Those people who averaged three or four cups a day had a 25 percent lower risk. Although it's not clear how green tea might offer a buffer (缓冲) against disability, Tomata's team did note that one recent study found green tea extracts (提取物) seem to increase leg muscle strength in older

women. While green tea and its extracts are considered safe in small amounts, they do contain caffeine and small amounts of vitamin K, which means it could affect drugs that prevent blood clotting (凝固). 66. What does the underlined word ''peer'' mean in the first paragraph? A. Father. C. A person of the same age. 67. What can be learned from the passage? A. Antioxidant chemicals can lead to disease. B. Those who often drank green tea can’t develop ''functional disability''. C. ''Functional disability'' is related to problems with daily activities or basic needs. D. People who drank at least five cups a day are not likely to become functionally disabled. 68. What does the fifth paragraph mainly tell us? A. How the study was proved. B. Why green tea-lovers can keep agile. C. What healthier diets include. D. How to lower disability risk. 69. What have the Researchers discovered? A. Those who drank green tea can't develop ''functional disability''. B. Green tea alone kept people agile as they grew older. C. How green tea might offer a buffer against disability. D. Green tea extracts (提取物) seem to increase leg muscle strength in older women. 70. From the passage we can infer that ______. A. vitamin K is contained in caffeine B. vitamin K is good for our blood C. vitamin K is bad for our health D. vitamin K is influencing on some drugs B. Brother. D. A person living in the same neighborhood.

The video rooms have been open since Jan. 2. If successful, the chain hopes to expand the service to other provinces, or even other countries. In addition to the food, customers pay 200 yuan per hour for using the room. ''The video rooms have been fully booked in February,'' said Chen Yu, manager of the Wangfujing branch. The Video room in Beijing is about 30 square meters and large enough for six customers. ''Many customers prefer to use the room for dinners rather than lunch,'' Chen said, adding the average age of customers who booked the video hotpot(火锅) is about 30. ''The whole process is very smooth. The image and the voice transmission(转换) are as good as those of video conferencing at work, ''said one of Chen's colleagues surnamed Luo. ''I have a lot of friends in Beijing, whom I haven’t met for a long time because of being busy at work,'' said a woman surnamed Yu who is having dinner with her husband at Haidilao. ''The new service gives us a chance to have a dinner together without traveling. I would like to give it a try.'' The video hotpot also helped establish a friendship between waitresses in the two cities. Zhao Huanhuan, in her 20s, who is specially trained for serving in the video room in Shanghai, developed a friendship with a waitress named Lu Ke in the Beijing branch. Zhao said excitedly: ''It was too amazing to believe. I'm so interested in using the special room and

enjoy serving people there. I also talk about some interesting interactive games with Lu before guests come for dinner''. Although Lu felt a little bit nervous when she first served in front of the screens, she said the new mode of communication also encouraged her to supply better services for customers. ''It's like a service competition. We saw each other through video and I could learn from Zhao's serving,'' Lu said, adding she will visit Zhao if she goes to Shanghai. What a lot of relatives we have to think about! W: Shall we decide what to send them all now? M: All right. Let’s make a list of names and then decide what to give them all. W: The children first, I think. What about Anne? M: She’s getting too grown-up for toys. We can let her choose a book. W: Very well. Now what about Dick? He thinks about nothing but space travel nowadays. M: Oh, that makes it easy. Shall we give him one of those space travel suits the toyshop has? You know what I mean, the big round plastic thing that goes on your head. And my father is fond of music. Perhaps some records? W: That’s an excellent idea. He’ll be quite excited. Text 9 M: You have reached the number of the Student Registration Office. If you want to reach the Admissions Office, press “1” now. For general information, press “2” now... Good morning, Admissions Office. Can I help you? W: Yes, my name’s Terry and I’m interested in finding out whether History 107 is full yet. M: Do you know the official registration code for that class? W: It is HIS 107 BC3. M: Hmm... it says that the class is full. You could check back in a couple of weeks. Some places will probably open up by that time. W: Yeah, I could try to talk to some people and see if they might drop it. M: Well, but you do realize that there’s a waiting list. And that means that you’d have to wait for your turn to come up. W: I understand. Well, one more question. Is the General Housing Office on the same floor as the Registration Office? M: Yes, in fact I’ve got the number, so if you’d like, I can put you through. Please hold and I will put you through.

W: Thanks. That should save me a coin or two. Text 10 W: Can you tell me how to get a driver’s license? M: To get a driver’s license, you must take three tests. The first test is a vision test. This test checks your eyes to see if you have to wear glasses when you drive. The second test is a written test that checks your knowledge of highway and traffic regulations. You can prepare for this test by studying a booklet that you can get in the driver’s license office. After you pass the written test, you receive an instruction permit. This permit allows you to practice driving with an experienced driver. The last test you have to take is a road test. This checks your driving ability. If you pass it, you will receive your driver’s license. W: What should I do when I go to the driver’s license office to take the road test? M: You must provide your own vehicle. First, the license examiner checks the mechanical condition of your car. Then the examiner gets into the car with you and asks you to drive in regular traffic. While you are driving, the examiner tests you for such things as starting, stopping, turning, backing up, and parking. If you can’t control the car properly, or if you break a traffic rule while you are taking the test, you fail the examination. You’ll have to continue to practice until you take the road test again and pass it.
